History of Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple
According to legend, people brought the idol of Lord Ganesh from Gujarat to Mawali in Mewar, Udaipur. In the 17th century, Sawai Madho Singh Ji, who deeply worshipped Lord Ganesh, visited his in-law’s place in Mawali. He wanted to bring Lord Ganesh’s idol to Jaipur to build a temple. When the Maharana of Mewar heard about this, he ordered Palliwal Brahman scholars to accompany Sawai Madho Singh Ji in a royal procession and take Lord Ganesh’s statue to Jaipur.
When the bullock cart carrying the idol arrived in Jaipur, it stopped at the base of Moti Dungri hill. Despite many tries, no one could move the cart. So, Madho Singh Ji decided to build the temple there. Seth Jai Ram Paliwal and Chief Priest Mahant Shiv Narain ji oversaw the construction. That’s how Moti Dungri temple came to be.
