LAX Airport Gets Ready for the 2028 Olympics

If you are an Olympic Games fan and want to feel the fun! Airfarebookings Last Minute Flights tickets from USA to India will add extra excitement to your trip. Renovation Work at  Los Angeles International Airport is making significant transformations into the 2028 Olympic Games. The airport is well known for its convoluted layout and severe jams. It desires to better both efficiency, convenience, and travelling experience as several millions from diverse parts of the world would begin visiting LAX.

A New Start  for LAX

Unlike other leading airports, in which one major carrier has domination, LAX hosts several, complicating cooperation. The largest is Delta Air Lines, which takes 24% of U.S. flights and 20% of global departures at LAX according to the OAG Megahubs Report 2024; yet no one has a monopoly, something which makes it very different to, for instance, London Heathrow or Atlanta Hartsfield.

It’s also investing in significant infrastructure projects in preparation for the Olympics, including a new Automated People Mover, redesigned terminals, and improved wayfinding systems.

Automated People Mover (APM) to Decrease Road Density

The traffic congestion that occurs in Los Angeles, particularly around LAX is the biggest concern. For this reason, the airport has undertaken the construction of a monorail-style APM that is expected to be completed between late 2025 and early 2026.

LAX Deputy Executive Director for Operations, Doug Webster reported that APM will link the airport to the Los Angeles Metro and as all buses service this route, they face congestion problems. The APM would ease this situation by arriving sooner with no congestion.

APM will have three central APM tube stations that will take over selected parking locations.

It will also connect to:

The Consolidated Rental Car Facility

The LAX Metro/Transit Center

Travelers can use new remote locations for both drop-off and pick-up operations.

Passengers at peak hours have a choice to use a 10-minute people mover service rather than endure unreliable traffic congestion according to Webster.

Rental Car Facility Gets a New Location

The facility, which started becoming newly operational in October 2024, is now the site of Consolidated Rental Car Facility. So, later this year other car rental companies would shift to make room for redevelopment projects.

According to Webster, the facility was intended to connect via APM, not buses. However, the temporary bus service will continue until the APM becomes operational. LAX will observe traffic flow before a decision is made on when to relocate the remaining rental companies.

Terminals to Get New Names

Airport terminal name changes will allow flights going from one terminal to another to become simpler for passengers. A reshuffle took place at the airport when airlines relocated more than 15 operators to alternative terminals in 2017. The largest change was Delta Airlines, which moved from Terminals 5 and 6 to Terminals 2 and 3.

A New Numbering System & Terminal Names

Terminal 1 (Southwest Airlines) does not change.

Terminals 2 and 3 will merge into one called Terminal 2.

The Tom Bradley International Terminal( Terminal B)  will now be called Terminal 3.

Terminals 4, 5, 6, 7 remain as is.

Terminal 8 combines with Terminal 7.

Each pier will be assigned a letter, and gates will be assigned unique identifiers with both a letter and number system. This will make navigation easier for passengers. If you are planning a trip, booking Flights tickets to Cochin from USA will be seamless with us at Airfarebooking.com.

Webster said, “This change will update our system and make it easier for passengers, but it will require adjustments since LAX has used the same numbering for 60 years.”

Olympic Deadline

The upcoming Summer Olympics in 2028 will welcome millions of athletes and officials together with tourists into Los Angeles. Many would get their first impression of the Olympic City through LAX.

According to Webster, the officials at LAX consulted with Aeroports de Paris on how to manage major international events. They want to ensure all construction is done on time.

LAX is focussing on efficiency rather than expansion. Existing projects must be completed before the Olympics.

The renovation of Terminal 4 (American Airlines terminal) is set to be completed by 2027. Other projects that are at risk of delays will be postponed until after the Olympics so as not to disrupt the projects.

Bottom Lines

LAX is transformed to gear up for the 2028 Olympics. Los Angeles will ensure that  LAX prepares itself for smart improvement rather than an unnecessary extension. Book  business class travel tickets from USA to India at Airfarebooking.com. Check the site now!
